Work with your Google Drive files in Plasmole

On paid plans you can now connect Google Drive, open your Drive files next to your plasmids and entries, and ask the assistant about them. Plasmole sees only the files you pick, and never changes anything in your Drive.

New

  • Connect Google Drive in Settings, then pick files with Google's own file picker: Google Docs, up to 10 at a time, Google Sheets, PDFs, and Word or Excel files
  • The files you pick go in your Google Drive folder in Plasmole. Only you see them
  • Open a Drive file in Plasmole to read it, or open it in Google Drive to edit it
  • Attach a Drive file to a chat, or mention it with @, and the assistant reads the current version each time you ask
  • Make a copy in a project. A Google Doc becomes a note you can edit, and your copies stay if you disconnect
  • Disconnect at any time in Settings. Nothing in your Drive changes
  • With a work or school Google account, your IT admin may need to allow Plasmole first. Plasmole shows you what to ask them

The assistant remembers what your lab tried

When you mark an experiment done, Plasmole asks how it went. The assistant searches your lab's records, shows which ones it used, and checks what your lab already tried before it proposes a plan.

New

  • Done on an entry asks how the experiment went, drafted from its results, or lets you mark it Not an experiment
  • A Used lab memory chip under an answer lists the records it drew on; click one to open it beside the chat
  • Sanger batches and large alignments run as jobs you can follow, stop, retry and export as a PDF or CSV report
  • Pick a host strain, and digests and cut-site maps account for its Dam, Dcm, EcoKI and CpG methylation
  • Edit an uploaded Excel file in place, see each document's version history, and download the original file
  • Superscript and subscript in entries

Improved

  • One share dialog for every record, and Lab settings is now its own page
  • The enzyme list holds 1,015 REBASE enzymes, including Type IIS, IIB and IIM. Supplier buffer and temperature details are no longer shown
  • Annotation shows a preview and asks what to add before it changes your plasmid
  • Signed entries print as a lab record, protocols as a bench sheet, and map PDFs carry the plasmid's name, length and date
  • Word import and paste keep every word, mark and list level
  • The chat offers three assistants; sequence questions go to Design

Fixed

  • Cut-site scans include BsaI, BsmBI, BbsI and SapI
  • Annotation finds features that cross the origin and mislabels fewer
  • Alignments no longer count two unknown bases (N) as a match
  • Common primers appear once each, and ten built-in parts with wrong sequences are hidden
  • Saving a note from the chat puts its text on the page
  • Security and access-control improvements

Import plasmids with primer binding sites

You can now import annotated plasmids into your Library when they include primer binding sites. Your sequence, topology and feature annotations stay together on the imported record.

Fixed

  • GenBank plasmids with primer binding sites import successfully instead of being rejected as primers
  • ApE, EMBL, SBOL and GFF imports keep primer binding sites as annotations on the complete sequence

Notebook entries, redesigned

Entries now show their properties under the title, one Linked panel for everything they connect to, and one status from Draft to Signed. Ask AI brings a selection, or the whole entry, into the chat, which now opens on the left.

New

  • The AI chat opens on the left beside the sidebar, and goes full screen from its header
  • Share lab records view-only with people outside your lab
  • A notifications bell for assignments, mentions, comments, reviews and shares
  • A home page for lab heads: reviews waiting on them, and work by project or by person
  • Ask the AI about your lab, or to find and open a record by name. It sees only what you can see
  • Batch primer design with a plate order sheet, batch codon optimization and CRISPR guide pools

Improved

  • The AI asks before changing a record you did not open, @-mention or pick
  • Marking an entry done sends nothing to an AI unless you tick Summarize the outcome with AI
  • SBOL 2 import and export keep the name, sequence and features
  • CRISPR specificity for SpCas9 (NGG) guides uses published CFD scores
  • Dose-response fits use each series' own endpoint, and standard curves fit 4PL or give qPCR efficiency

Fixed

  • Deleting a plasmid from its tab moves it to Trash
  • Lab invitations reach people who sign up without the invite link
  • Saving a plasmid from a workflow canvas works
  • Cloning simulations give the same product everywhere, and AI-designed primers sit at the right position and strand
  • Sanger no-calls no longer count as deletions, and gel ladders match supplier datasheets
  • SnapGene .dna export is removed because its files were not valid; .dna import still works
  • Security and access-control improvements

Summer 2026 roundup

The biggest changes we shipped to Plasmole between July and early September 2026.

New

  • Align several sequences or Sanger reads at once with the Multiple Sequence Alignment tool
  • Add formulas like SUM and AVERAGE to tables in notebook entries, with a formula bar
  • Send a notebook entry to a labmate for sign-off, with edits locked during review

Improved

  • See your lab's work by person or by project on the Lab Dashboard
  • Check primers for hairpins, self-dimers and primer-dimers in the Tm Calculator

Fixed

  • Notebook entries no longer lose text you have just typed
  • CRISPR cloning oligos and digests with enzymes like BsaI now give correct results
  • Security and access-control improvements
