Set up a lab and manage members
Create a lab workspace, invite people, give them roles and control who opens each project.
A lab is a shared workspace. Everyone in it works on the same plasmids, entries and projects, with access set by their role.
Create a lab
- Click the workspace name at the top of the left rail.
- Open Switch workspace and click Create workspace.
- Enter a Team name, then answer Who leads this team? with I do or Someone else.
- Click Create team.
Creating a lab needs a Pro plan. You can join a lab you were invited to on any plan.
Invite people
- Click the workspace name, then Invite people. This opens Lab settings on the People tab.
- Type email addresses, separated by commas.
- Pick a role and click Invite.
The result tells you whether an invitation email went out. For someone who already has an account, you also get Copy link to send them yourself. Anyone without an account finds the invitation when they sign up with that address. The invited person answers under Switch workspace > Pending invites.
Manage invitations
- Open Lab settings > Invitations.
- Open the actions menu on an invitation.
- Choose Extend 7 days (an address with no account), Copy invite link (an existing account) or Revoke invitation.
Roles
| Role | What it can do |
|---|---|
| Admin | Runs the lab, including roles, handing over admin and deleting the lab |
| Lead | Invites people, changes roles below admin, renames the lab, sees Activity |
| Member | Creates and edits the lab's work |
| Viewer | Reads the lab's work, changes nothing |
Admins and leads see five Lab settings tabs: People, Invitations, Activity, Constraints and General. Others see People, Constraints and General.
Control access to one project
- Open the project in the Library and click Share.
- Pick a lab member and an access level: Read, Edit or Admin.
Everyone in the lab can open a lab project. Leads and admins can edit it. Give a member Edit to let them edit too, or Admin to also manage access.
