Write a notebook entry

Start an entry, add blocks, tables and files, and fill in its properties.

A notebook entry is your record of what you planned, did and found. It saves as you type.

Start an entry

  1. Click New, then New entry.
  2. In the New entry dialog, pick a start:
    • Blank entry: start writing.
    • From a template: pick one from your lab's, yours or the built-in ones.
    • Draft with AI: describe the entry and get a first draft.
    • Import a file: upload Word (.docx) or Markdown (.md).
  3. Click the button at the bottom: Create entry, Use template, Draft entry or Import.

An AI draft shows a banner: "Drafted by Plasmole AI. Check it before you rely on it." Read it, then click Mark as checked.

Add blocks

  1. Type / on an empty line.
  2. Pick a block: headings, bulleted, numbered or to-do lists, callout, code, embed, divider, quote, accordion, table, table of contents, image, file, Steps, link or bookmark.

Calculate in a table

  1. Add a table and give each column a header.
  2. Click a cell. A formula bar appears in the toolbar.
  3. Click fx and type a formula that names columns in braces, like =AVERAGE({OD600}).
  4. The cell shows the result. Click it again to see or edit the formula.

Available functions: AVERAGE, MEDIAN, STDEV, STDEVP, SUM, COUNT, MIN, MAX, IF, ROUND, ABS, LOG10.

Attach images and files

Add an image or file block, then choose the file. Files are stored with the entry.

Mention records and people

Type @ and pick a plasmid, entry, file, person or other record. A mentioned person gets a notification. See Link records to an entry.

Fill in properties

The row under the title shows Status, Project, Tasks and Owner. Click + Add property to set Task, Assignee, Plasmid, Linked entry, Organism, Method or Tags.
