Plan work with workflows and tasks

Map a cloning plan as a workflow, track each step, and assign tasks on the Lab Dashboard.

A workflow is a diagram of your plan: records and steps joined by arrows. Tasks track who does what, and live on the Lab Dashboard.

Create a workflow

  1. In the Library, click New > New workflow.
  2. Give it a name. If you are not inside a project, pick the project too.

Every workflow belongs to a project.

Add steps and records

  1. Click a node type in the bar on the canvas, or drag it onto the canvas.
  2. Click More node types to see the rest, or type in Search nodes....
  3. Right-click the empty canvas for Add Cloning Node and Add Planning Node (Hypothesis, Milestone, Sticky Note).

Node types include Plasmid, Experiment, Digest, Assembly, PCR, DNA Fragment, Primer, Transformation, Gel Verification, ELN Entry and Attachment.

Connect nodes

  1. Drag from the bottom handle of one node to the top handle of another.
  2. Click the arrow to open Edge Properties.
  3. Pick a Relationship Type and, if you want, type a Display Label.

Track progress on a node

  1. Right-click a wet-lab node and open Set Status.
  2. Pick Planned, In Progress, Completed or Failed.

Experiment, milestone and hypothesis nodes also have a Status field in the side panel. Hypotheses use Draft, Testing, Supported, Refuted and Inconclusive.

Create and track tasks

  1. Click Lab Dashboard on the left rail.
  2. Click New item, type a title, and set an assignee and due date.
  3. Pick a board view: Mine (items assigned to you), Team (one lane per lab member) or Projects (one lane per project).
  4. Open a card to change its Status, Priority, Assignee or Due date.

Status is To do, In progress, Done or Canceled. Priority is Low, Medium, High or Urgent. Click Show canceled to see canceled items.

Link a task to an entry

  1. In the entry, click Add property and pick Task.
  2. Link an existing task or create one.
